Cleaning Red Wine from Marble Countertops

Wine Spills Are Part of The Fun

The party in your house is in full swing. People are moving from the dining table to the patio to the kitchen around the marble countertop bringing their wine.

There's a lot of arm swinging and gesturing as people are deep in conversation and laughing. Then all of a sudden, one guest accidentally spills her glass of red wine on your kitchen's marble countertop.

You just flash your best hostess smile and then mutter enough pleasant words, so the guest won't feel bad about creating a wine stain on the marble surface.

Wine Stain Quick Solutions

You're now thinking quickly about what remedy to do so that the wine stain can be removed in the shortest time possible. What to do?

Removing wine stains from your precious marble countertop is a domestic challenge you can muster given the right resources.

You need to clean up the spill in the shortest time possible to avoid permanent staining.

You should start by wiping up any existing red wine spill with a paper towel. Then use clean water at a cool temperature to remove any residue left.

The next step is to use three parts baking soda to one part of water to form a paste. This should be spread evenly onto the marble countertop also to help clean the wine stain.

Have the paste sit overnight before wiping it off. It is expected that the baking soda will extract much of the stain once it becomes dry.

You can try other wine stain cleaning methods if you don't have baking soda. By character, red wine stains should be cleaned up quickly.

Try these other methods.

Additional Cleaning Methods

Club soda and salt could help if the stain is still damp and fresh. Start the process by blotting the stain with a paper towel. When most of the moisture has gone, sprinkle a layer of salt. After that, pour club soda over the salt. Then let this mix stay over the wine stain for several hours before vacuuming.

You can also use vodka. It is effective because its alcohol content lifts discoloration effectively from the marble surface. Simply pour vodka on the stain and soak it up on the target area.

You can also use milk by blotting it (don't rub) with a paper towel on the stain. Let one hour pass and use cold water to remove both the milk and the red wine.

If the stain is still there, it's proposed that you try using Easy Oxy Multi-Surface Cleaner. It can be safely used on your marble countertop (as well as other surfaces) to clean the wine stain.

Easy Oxy is oxygenated and non-abrasive, making it perfect for your marble countertop because it doesn't scratch the surface while cleaning. It acts as a degreaser too, and you will love its fresh smelling scent

Also, it's biodegradable, non-toxic, and non-bleach. Because home irritations like wine stains happen unexpectedly, it's best always to have Easy Oxy on hand.

Other Home Areas Also Vulnerable to Wine Stains

It is not only your marble countertop that's at risk from accidental wine spills. Other surfaces include tile or marble floors, upholstery, rugs, and carpet.

Just the same way. First, try the simplest remedies—blot (don't rub) with an absorbent white cloth or a clean paper towel. Next, dilute the wine stain with just the right amount of clean cold water on the focus area of the stained fabric or floor and continue to blot; never rub.

Cleaning Substances Should Be in Stock Always

Or, if nothing else works, call in a professional to do the work for you.

No matter what happens, don't cry over spilled wine. Accidents happen, and they're part of the package and the fun when you get together with family, friends, or colleagues. Just keep in mind - there is always a solution to making your beloved marble countertop smudge-free again.
